This is one of my favorite candles. Votivo Island Grapefruit is a chic, salty — or, around here, saltie — citrus. Grapefruit can go wrong fast. Too sweet and suddenly your house smells like a synthetic body spray. This doesn’t. It’s fresh red and pink grapefruit with a little floral, caramel and musk underneath that keeps the whole thing grounded and sophisticated.
It smells clean. Sunny. A little coastal. Bright citrus, but with enough depth underneath that it still feels chic.
Top Notes: Red Grapefruit, Pink Grapefruit
Middle Notes: Fruity Florals
Base Notes: Caramel, Musk
Another thing you’ll notice about the candles I sell: I don’t want the scent name screaming at you from across the room. No giant GRAPEFRUIT. No enormous logo competing with your backsplash, your books, your art, your life. You have an eye. Your home has a point of view. To me, candles should blend into the beauty the room you created and let the scent do the talking. We know it’s a candle. We don’t need a billboard explaining it to us.
Votivo uses a soy-blend wax, which I’m a fan of. It's all I burn at the studio. Soy is plant-derived, burns at a lower temperature than traditional paraffin and generally gives you a slower, more even burn. It also tends to produce less visible soot when the wick is properly maintained. And you’ll want to burn this one.
Kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, studio, oh... esp a beach house — anywhere, really. It makes a room smell noticeably better without taking over.
