🌲💗🌹 FRIDAY 5 FAVORITE THINGS: IN THE SPIRIT

NOVEMBER 11, 2022

Share:

Hello, Hello, Friday. In more ways than one, I am into the Holiday spirit. Some days I feel like the airport scene from Home Alone (sprinting to class) and others I feel like an an elf in The Santa Clause (assembling packaging). Then you know I have my Grinch moments.. The other night at Spa Tech, I asked one of my girlfriends, "What happened to Christmas movies? Remember going to the theater to watch them with popcorn?". Am I missing something? I know I don't have a TV but either they go straight to Netflix and I don't hear about them or they just don't make them like they made the classics. I really enjoyed going to the movies and getting into the spirit that way. Perhaps I will watch Nightmare Before Christmas this weekend because that is a movie I think I would love but have never watched. I love the attraction at Disney. Also, I have a belated Halloween party right smack in the middle of the season so that would be fitting. Next week I will share my costume. It's something very Cape Saltie actually and also very me. So, speaking of Disney, I'll be my Disney princess! That's a total giveaway. This week's Friday Five has what I am looking for (Christmas + some popcorn + more) so I hope you enjoy it. I love when you reach out and let me know what you like from the Friday Five so keep telling me what you want to see/learn/share.

1. ALL VELVET EVERYTHING FOR THE HOLIDAYS

Have you ordered anything from Cape Saltie? If so, then you know I love my velvet bags and I had better because I am sitting on a rack of them. Luckily, this is rich, luxe velvet we're talking so the value isn't going down even though I see my supplier's price shooting up. I am glad I purchased when I did. Aside from packaging special items, I also love velvet during the Holidays and (yes, you know) I am currently obsessed with my Cider deals so here is a little roundup below of the pieces I am considering for Holiday 22. I wish there was a vote feature on here so you could tell me what to get. The manly looking button-up, btw, is just something I think I would wear to the salt greenhouses which I am giving you a front row seat tour to in this blog. Paul would probably ask me where I got it. Haha!

Hi, I'm Jenna

The blogs you'll find here are inspired by my interests in beauty + wellness which developed from collecting fashion magazines during my newspaper carrying days in elementary school. I later attended Umass Lowell and graduated from FIDM before working for world renowned estheticians and beauty brands like Sonya Dakar, Smashbox, Tarte & Tata Harper. Today I am an e-commerce marketer and Amazon specialist for 3 wonderful companies on Cape Cod and newly licensed LMT still studying for my esthetician's license. I'm a curious, color-obsessed creative.

  • "Before #2-5, here's a little Lightning Round. A round up of little things that have been sparking joy for me lately. Ok, let's go."

    • Drinking: The Chestnut Latte from Starbucks. I was influenced by the MacDonald sisters to try this one but it was not my favorite. I much prefer a dirty chai latte with almond milk, 1 shot decaf and one shot espresso. What a pain in the ass with that order, I know..

    • Loving: This pink Christmas tree from Amazon. I really think this year is the year for it!

    • Ordering: More Cider.. my belated Halloween whole costume came from there - including these sequin pants. Let's hope it gets here in time... OK, any guesses?

    • Eating: A bag of Yolo Popcorn. OK, maybe 3 bags. I love the original flavor with herbs and nutritional yeast. This is snack that brings me back to my Vermont days. I lived in Vermont one week out of every month and would always look forward to the trip to the natural market to load up on snacks for the ride home. This popcorn, with its nutritional yeast and herbs, is very Vermont-y.

    • Burning: Something new coming to the site VERY soon. If you have not purchased Holiday candles yet please wait, wait, wait because this is going to be SO good. Are you subscribed to the Cape Saltie newsletter? You'll get the new product drop alert first if you are and if you're not, sign up here.

    • Watching: Psychiatrist Doc Amen's reels on Instagram. The more I get into skin health, the more I get back into gut health. All the dots always seem to connect me back to the gut.

    • Obsessed with: Major surprise Holiday newness in store for you. Oh my gosh, I am SO excited to see how you all react to the latest drop. This one is a BIG deal for me.

2. MY HOLIDAY PLAYLIST OR TAI VERDES

I was getting into the Holiday spirit listening to Christmas music on November 1st. It's been even more vibey than usual because it's so warm here on Cape. I am loving waking up and listening to my Cape Saltie Christmas Playlist on a cozy drive to the office - windows down/ t-shirt on/coffee in hand. I remember exploring sunny, warm Laguna Beach around Christmastime.. now that is a vibe! Anyways, almost all these songs are classic favs from when I was a kid so they feel very nostalgic and make my little grinch heart grow 3 sizes listening to them. There's a few new ones, like Gwen & Blake.. One Republic. Too early for Christmas? Maybe you'll enjoy Tai Verdes? My friend Ryan posted this song on Monday and I have had it in my head all week. Also a vibe! It always starts with a heeeeey.

3. GREEN PROBIOTICS & DOC AMEN

I'm starting to feel like an esthetician, guys. For real! You know what it is for me.. that's finally clicking? The extractions! I know, yea, gross! It's a huge part of it. Sometimes I worry that I won't have the stomach but I am committed to producing results. It also gets me thinking about problem solving and when it comes to the skin, like other areas of the body that experience problems, so much comes back to diet, fighting inflammation and gut health. So I talk about gut health a lot and always recommend the probiotics and green micronutrients that have done wonders for me - that is the Green Vibrance. It's the only thing I have ever had on auto-replenishment on Amazon. Not cheap but high quality. I could really get into it but I think I'd lose people in this blog so I also always recommend this book and this doctor, Dr. Amen, on Instagram who is extremely knowledgeable. When I worked for other skincare brands, I always thought.. well, if these women truly understood the physiology of the skin (they did) then they would spotlight real solutions right on the homepage of the site (didn't) and now, I can do whatever I want so I am going to find a way to incorporate solutions (even if I don't make them) into my overall philosophy and digital presence in a BIG BIG way.

4. THE ACK QUEEN OF FLOWERS BATH SOAK

If I repeat something in the Friday Five, that means it's big for me. This is a roundup of everything I currently love. And, now in the spirit of self love, The ACK Queen of Flowers Solar Sea Salt Bath Soak deserves more of a red carpet moment, she is really beautiful! The Queen is made with pure Rose Absolute which is said to enhance feelings of self-love, self-esteem, mental strength and confidence. I love that for all of us! Here is a behind the scenes video I shared this week of the creation process. I feel most confident when I am creating.

5. BRUSSELS SPROUTS & AIOLI

I think I am in denial that Thanksgiving is 2 weeks away. Last year my dish was cranberry sauce and this year I would like to be in charge of the sprouts because I have been making lots lately. Plus. roasting a big sheet of healthy, root vegetables is too easy. There's two ways I have prepared them recently that I want to share. The first is the "Busy Girl Brussels".. haha. That is just roasting them in the oven with a dash of oil and sea salt. When they come out, I let them sit and eat them with the Stonewall Kitchen Sriracha Aioli. Yum! This is so good! The other is this recipe from Half Baked Harvest with pomegranate and Manchego cheese. I adapted the recipe and did everything but the balsamic, added a little maple syrup then served with her lemon garlic aioli from this recipe with some diced up chives. Oh, it was SO good. Was this blog? Hope something in it got you a little into the spirit. Have a great weekend. Xx JD
