Happy (Almost) 2022! One of my New Year's Eve traditions used to be checking my Yahoo Shine horoscope after the ball dropped. It goes back to when I was starting to use the internet daily.. for school, scoping out toys on ebay, whatever I wanted. Something I find more characteristic about myself than being a Leo is I was born right around when Apple released the Macintosh computer. A company called MITS released the Altair in 1974 but the Macintosh was the first commercially successful "mass-market" PC. I'm part of the generation that can remember childhood with and without the internet. I liked both and, from an actuarial standpoint, I was born on the cusp of the computing power stage of the Digital Age thanks in part to the proliferation of Apples popping up everywhere. As I say Goodbye (not Good Riddance- all things considered, it wasn't that bad) to 2021 and look forward to 2022, I am prompted to think about goals & progress. Vertical progess - to be specific - after reading Zero to One in 2021. It was my favorite read this year. In the book, Peter Thiel argues that most of the progress we see today is horizontal (copying of existing technology) but we should look to vertical progress (ex: Apple revolutionizing the way we use PCs and mobile phones) if we want to see real societal improvement and make the 21st century more peaceful & prosperous. Speaking of goals, that's a solid aim. In 2014, I didn't find yoga because I had gone to classes before but, yea, I found yoga because one day, it clicked .. and it taught me how to truly take care of myself for the first time. I felt radiant, like my cells were singing! Similar experience with this short and easy read, it just clicked and I've had some great takeaways from it that taught me how to reimagine work. Zero to One was an energetic (but also common sense) injection of clarity. And that's timed pretty well because my horoscope for the year does say 2022 will be all about extreme focus. What about you? Now onward and on to the Friday 5...
1. The best lip balms - Pop (pink) the bubbly is right...
Brrrr, it's cold out and new lip balms arrived just in time on capesaltie.com. The merchandising philosophy is an esthetician and massage therapist curation of industry-vetted, high quality beauty + wellness items that complement the spa experience and prioritize quality/botanical ingredients. I also want to add in more trend items without breaking the bank for fun. Back to the balms, they are the ultimate remedy for dry lips and as pretty as a luxury gloss. The Bubblegum is my absolute favorite for the perfect pop of pink then plumping peppermint is next. Check out new shades, finishes and flavors that just dropped here.
Hi, I'm Jenna
The blogs you'll find here are inspired by my interests in beauty + wellness which developed from collecting fashion magazines during my newspaper carrying days in elementary school. I later attended Umass Lowell and graduated from FIDM before working for world renowned estheticians and beauty brands like Sonya Dakar, Smashbox, Tarte & Tata Harper. Today I am an e-commerce marketer and Amazon specialist for 3 wonderful companies on Cape Cod and newly licensed LMT still studying for my esthetician's license. I'm a curious, color-obsessed creative.

3. THE ALPINIST ON NETFLIX
Another motivating recommendation for 2022. The Alpinist is an acclaimed 2020 documentary that shows mountain climbing in all its glory. The film follows Marc-André Leclerc up some of the world's most iconic peaks. My jaw was dropped for most of it, just couldn't comprehend the conditions the climbers immersed themselves in. Truly wild! Aside from the bigger theme of living up to personal, monumental goals, I think there's this other metaphor watching Marc and his girlfriend, also a solo Alpinist, support another in there individual uphill pursuits. It's an important reminder, the importance of understanding and supporting your partner in their unique dreams.. and also to have shared pursuits you work towards together. Check out the trailer below and let me know what you think if you watch it.
4. GINGERBREAD MEN EVERYTHING
Everything Christmas goes away today.. the tree, the stockings and all my new Gingerbread stuff! Yes, stuff. It was a a bit of a theme this year. Somtimes people do lots of Snowmen.. an all pink tree. I never seek out particular decorations but this year I had to get all the Gingerbead stuff I saw. I'm probably under the influence of Too Faced's Holiday confectionary collections, I collect them every year. They are all so cute! Here are some of my favorites and gift ideas for next year. Wink wink!
5. RUBY CHOCOLATE
Dubbed the "fourth chocolate" in the mix of milk, dark and white comes Ruby! She's delicious, by far my favorite of the bunch. Have you tried pink chocolate? I'm not fully convinced that it's not some conspiracy chocolate but that's not stopping me from loving the sweet, tangy and fruity variety - only a New Year's resolution to cut back on the sugar will. Anyways, the best ruby chocolate I have tried are these bark bars from Charles out of San Francisco. They have dehydrated strawberries, raspberries, cacao nibs and other little embellishments to bring out the sweet and somewhat sour flavor. I love, especially the pink color.
Cheers to peace, prosperity and.. bubblegum pink in 2022! Thanks for reading! Xx Jenna
