🧚🏻‍♂️🌲❄️ FRIDAY 5 FAVORITE THINGS: BETWEEN TWO FIRS

DECEMBER 2, 2022

Share:

How is it already 23 sleeps until Christmas? These next couple weeks are going to fly by! I am really looking forward to my little Holiday break from work and school. And I can't wait to get sleepy with my very own lavender Christmas Tree Farm candle. Ofc, I am not sleeping with a candle going.. this is just for the purpose of articulation to say, "Wow, I am tired"! .. But I am having fun! Are you? I've done some of my favorite traditions already.. picked out my gift wrap, visited the Christmas tree lot, had my share of Gingerbread Men from both Chatham Candy Manor and Hot Chocolate Sparrow .. but what I am most looking forward to is making Christmas cookies with my mom and sister this weekend. Aside from tree trimming, I think this might be my favorite Christmas tradition. I will share the cookies my family makes in future blogs. The recipe has not changed in over 25 years. Before cookie making on Sunday, I am going to scope out the Christmas Cookie Bakeoff happening at our local gourmet-ish market, Ring Bros, on Saturday because I would love for us to enter next year. I think we'd win!

1. CHRISTMAS TREE CANDLES FROM BEDROCK TREE FARM

Speaking of a win, the Christmas Tree Candles from Bedrock have been a huge hit and the positive reviews are coming in. It is so fun to see what everyone picks then receive feedback when your packages arrive. The Lavender was the star of this Christmas pageant, for sure. I will have a restock happening soon.. hopefully before Christmas. Going to do everything I can. I  *still* have not lit a single one and will not until the Holiday ship window cutoff passes. I want to make sure everyone who wants one gets one. I want the Shiso one and we're down to one so... please pass on by there. Haha! I am kidding. They're all amazing, especially that one.

Hi, I'm Jenna

The blogs you'll find here are inspired by my interests in beauty + wellness which developed from collecting fashion magazines during my newspaper carrying days in elementary school. I later attended Umass Lowell and graduated from FIDM before working for world renowned estheticians and beauty brands like Sonya Dakar, Smashbox, Tarte & Tata Harper. Today I am an e-commerce marketer and Amazon specialist for 3 wonderful companies on Cape Cod and newly licensed LMT still studying for my esthetician's license. I'm a curious, color-obsessed creative.

2. GINGERBREAD MAN

GREAT News .. Pre-Orders for Gingerbread Man are NOW SHIPPING — early!! Gingerbread Man Pre-Orders scheduled to ship on 12.8 started shipping on 12.5. Sorry to do back-to-back product in the Friday 5 but - outside of work and school - this man has taken all my time and attention. The initial batch should start arriving to customers as early as Wednesday. I cannot wait to see what everyone thinks of Cape Saltie's first ever essential oil blend — for the home!! This launch has really inspired me, I am already thinking of others that could be made and top customers are suggesting new blends as well based on their preferences for what they like their home to smell like. My own home will soon be on a regular rotation of Gingerbread Man, the Shiso Bedrock candle & Boy Smells FleurShadow. These will be my signature home scents and I am so happy to now have something that's festive, warm, citrus and cozy in my repertoire!

3. THE SHIPPING SHUFFLE & A MILESTONE MOMENT FOR CAPE SALTIE

Is it a favorite thing? This week —absolutely it is! Shout out Miley and Gerry at the Post Office & UPS for getting your packages to you seamlessly and in tact. I am using both carriers this year depending on which gets your package to you fastest. This year the discounts Shopify provides with both carriers have been awesome. I don't remember them being this good, especially with UPS, last year. Another post office highlight was shipping my first Gingerbread sale to a total stranger on Amazon after only having it listed for a few hours. It was a record for me. Gingerbread Man is sold on Cape Saltie and here on Amazon so I am hoping to attract everyone who likes Gingerbread cookies and diffusing essential oils as much as I do. Think that's niche? Not on Amazon. Biggest shopping mall in the world!

4. MY ANSWERS TO YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA QUESTIONS

This week I wanted to hear from you. Every week I want to hear from you, haha, but now and then I like to reach out and specifically see what you want to hear about with a Q+A. It's always a mix. This also informs what content I need to add to the site or what may need to be articulated better, visually or linguistically. Over time, I know the community here will really inform the evolution of the site and products. It already has!! So here are answers to the questions you sent me.

How would you describe Cape Saltie in 3 words?

Imaginative. Feminine. Grounded.

What is a good co-worker Holiday gift?

I love this question! It's not something you typically expect so - no matter what you get- it's going to be very thoughtful. All my co-workers are guys so I am getting them some of my family Christmas cookies and BBQ sauce this year. They look forward to them every year.

How would you describe yourself in 3 words?

Creative. Thoughtful. Perceptive.

What are some of your favorite places on Cape Cod?

I have so many. I really need to reformat my Cape Saltie guide to Cape Cod so you can view it again. I have not updated it since the website update so I will give you a handful here.. Sweet Izzy for Vegan Ice Cream (I am not vegan, just love it!), Hangar B in Chatham for breakfast, The Mews in Provincetown - my favorite dinner, Brewster Flats for sunsets, Ocean Edge for frozen drinks, Gina's for Italian, Lighthouse for lattes, Hot Chocolate Sparrow for candy, Rail Trail for exercise

What's inspiring you right now?

This very moment? This deodorant called Unicorn Fruit by Truly. Once I make and finish a product, I am on to the next shiny object. I love my line and the lines I carry but have total magpie tendencies and I am not ashamed to admit that I pull inspirations elsewhere. At the end of the day, I consider myself the ultimate beauty shopaholic. Maybe those should have been my 3 words? Haha!

Any plans on spray fragrances in the future?

No plans. I'm not particularly excited to do a project with grape alcohol in the future but maybe that might change in the future. Never say never. Grape alcohol is what I would use for a spray. I would rather make a hydrasol mist for the face first. Do you want me to make a spray fragrance? What do you all think of wearing aromatherapy for a scent instead of a spray perfume? You don't have to choose one or the other, it's nice to have options!

Are your products pregnancy safe?

I instruct anyone who is expecting to refer to their doctor for all product related questions. Every pregnancy is different. I would never make a blank statement on any product that said product is pregnancy safe.

Will you ever expand the Nightswimming line?

I will bring back the Nightswimming Solar Sea Salt Bath Soak for sure. I don't know about other products with that scent just yet.

What made you want to become an esthetician?

I have an extensive background working in skincare. My very first job in college was working for one of the most famous estheticians in Hollywood and, since then, I have done extensive work in skincare working in branding, e-commerce and content production. I want to continue my passion for consumer products in this space but do it in an indie capacity. At a certain point, you're either doing it for a major brand (which I wouldn't count out in the future) or yourself. The esthetician gets to be truly hands on and change people's skin and I'm passionate about delivering results with relaxation - given I also have tenure in holistic ingredients and - most recently- massage too. I would like to advance the wellness world with truly unique services and special products. Hopefully I am starting to do that here.

Will you do Farmer's Markets again

Yes, when I have more time..

What was the best experience of your life?

That is tough to pick one. In terms of memories with my family, one of my favorites was sitting on the stairs in our old house in NH and my parents asking us for name suggestions for my bother before he was born. It wasn't this crazy, adventurous thing that happened.. I just remember it so vividly and I think I liked being involved in the creative process. We also took a trip along the California coast when I was in 6th grade and I loved that. We went everywhere: Hollywood, Carmel, San Francisco.. so much. I also loved my experience living in Manhattan. I also loved a day I spent in Nosara and want to bring a Jasmine from India I wore on that day to the site in something special. It was otherworldly and so is the scent!

Are your products vegan?

All but one, Babycakes. Babycakes, like many blush and lipstick products, uses carmine in the to color it peachy-pink.

Are your products made in the USA?

Yes, Cape Saltie products are all batched, bottles and blended on Cape Cod.

When is Gingerbread Man shipping?

This week, as noted above!!

5. POP TARTS FROM LIGHTHOUSE KEEPER'S PANTRY IN YARMOUTH PORT

Lighthouse Keeper's Pantry in Yarmouth knows the way to my heart. All Pop-Tarts everything! The best, buttery pastries inside, strong coffee to power order packing and plenty of artisanal gifts including cute Holiday ornaments, like the cutie below. I knew this week was going to be a sprint so I made sure to treat myself in the beginning of the week with a slower start to the morning and a fresh pop tart. There's a Jerry Seinfeld bit that's like "Pop tarts cannot go stale, they were never fresh!".. haha. Touché.. except when it comes to Lighthouse! I hope the rest of the week is just as sweet and that you have a good one too! Until next time.. Xx Jenna
