🪐🍃🧖🏽♀️ FRIDAY 5 FAVORITE THINGS: THE SUMMER WIND
It has been a whirlwind summer.. lots to fill you in on. For starters, Cape Saltie opened a Massage (& Facials soon) studio in Falmouth. Months have gone by without an announcement here. Wild! Like I said, whirlwind — of growth, service, effort and creativity. Many of you know this question in my intake before a session:
"And if you were to describe your spiritual and emotional state as if you were describing the weather, What would it be?"
And you might say it's been a whirlwind. Sometimes you say it's a bright, sunny day. I've heard some of you refer to yourself as foggy. That was me earlier this week after dealing with a seasonal allergy attack on top of a move. Not to be unoriginal and start this long overdue update talking about the weather, but it really has been all over the place this summer. Huh?
This is just one of the reasons I am so happy Cape Saltie exists. Here is a serene, oceanic space to just feel plain peaceful and it's all ours. It’s the place I always wanted to go for a reset when I feel cloudy or for 60-90 min of self care to set a precedent that I'm a person who takes care of myself. By the way, I have a whole Philosophy on "self care" and its ripple effects as well as a gallery of the new space on site. I hope you'll channel your inner Joanna Gaines and message me on Instagram to let me know what you think of the space. I had so much fun putting it together with my boyfriend, friends and family. Already I can't wait to create another room inside 13 Falmouth Heights. After my Birthday lilac bush, it's one of my current favorite things so I am going to share a little album of the space coming together. But first, there's lightning too!!
"Before #1-5, here's a little Lightning Round. A round up of little things that have been sparking joy for me lately. Ok, let's go."
Drinking: Celsius Energy drinks before a day of Deep Tissue Massage sessions. Health wise, I don't think these are great but this one keeps me going as I am still adjusting to the physical demands of back-to-back sessions.
Listening to: The Crumbl cookie podcast. I am interested in franchise models and trying to learn everything I can about them.
Reading: The Franchise MBA by Nick Neonakis & Mindset by Carol Dweck.
Loving: Our New England Summer Epsom Salt & Coconut Oil Bath Bomb.. it smells like fruity pebbles! Yes, I take baths all summer long. It is meditation for me.
Ordering: More massage table sheets for the studio. People think I am in appointments all the time but, in reality, it's also a constant rotation of laundry and cleaning.
Eating: The famous Carbone Spicy Rigatoni I made from this recipe.. easy delicious dinner.
Wanting: These Adidas Ultraboost 5.0 runners. Can't believe what a good pair of sneakers cost today but if I treat myself to anything this Fall it's going to be these & some workout gear.
Burning: Bedrock Tree Farm Lavender Candles
Watching: Suits before bed
Loving: Treating myself to a bi-weekly gel manicure
Eating: The Coffee "Oreo" Vegan Ice Cream at Sweet Izzy
Hi, I'm Jenna
The blogs you'll find here are inspired by my interests in beauty + wellness which developed from collecting fashion magazines during my newspaper carrying days in elementary school. I later attended Umass Lowell and graduated from FIDM before working for world renowned estheticians and beauty brands like Sonya Dakar, Smashbox, Tarte & Tata Harper. Today I am an e-commerce marketer and Amazon specialist for 3 wonderful companies on Cape Cod and newly licensed LMT still studying for my esthetician's license. I'm a curious, color-obsessed creative.

1. LILACS, LOBSTER & BIRTHDAY LOVE
With the whirlwind of summer, I thought my birthday was going to breezily pass by and (in atypical Leo fashion) I was OK with that. I don't look forward to my birthdays anymore and if I had to put a finger on why I would say that most days I treat myself. I will eat ice cream cake for breakfast on a random Wednesday. I will spoil myself with things I want here and there. What I look forward to on my birthday is my people getting together and that happens on Holidays too s00Ooo I prefer Thanksgiving and all its sides to me getting older and having less time to do what I want to do. However, I will say I unexpectedly loved my birthday this year. There were lots of sweet surprises like my first lilac bush, sparkly earrings and lobster rolls with my entire family at Sesuit Harbor Cafe — the oceanside home the best lobster roll ever!
2. CAPE SALTIE MASSAGE IN FALMOUTH
She's a little gem. I know there is a lot you'll enjoy about the space. It feels a little hidden. It's minimal. Charming. Smells great. You'll notice all that when you come in. The blog is where I will always share more to the story so the long version is I took my time selecting this spot. There's a lot of dialogue happening on Cape Cod around the subject of housing or, rather, lack of. I will tell you that when it comes to commercial real estate, it's no different. Speaking of Leo season, I didn't like the idea of giving the lion's share of what would be made initially to an Oz-like landlord for a building that looks like it hasn't been updated since the 70s. I searched everywhere. I found kreeky floors, hallways reminiscent of the Shining and a spot where construction was happening right next door. No! No! NO! And NO place is perfect but, firstly, I found the inside of 13 Falmouth Heights contemporary, the terms fit my bootstrap-friendly mentality and the owner had a team that is as involved as me. That's good business. I am very happy with my choice and hope you will be as well.
3. BEING WHERE YOUR FEET ARE..
I realize a lot of my favorite things are often that - things. My 3rd favorite thing this week is something I heard recently and it's what I need to hear: Be Where Your Feet Are. I don't like this about myself... When I cross a major milestone, I am immediately onto the next thing. I don't want to be that way. When I finished my license for massage, I immediately felt impatient to have my esthetician's license. When the space was finished, I started thinking about the next location. I know humans are wired that way. What I want to say (to myself) is Be Where Your Feet Are. Enjoy being booked in the space you just worked so hard for. Continue to cultivate your craft.. Luckily, you have everything you need to do that. If your feet are in Room #4, let your mind be in Room #4 and be fully present and in that moment. Enjoy it.
4. BACK BAR AT CAPE SALTIE
It was only a matter of time.. (drumroll) BACK BAR drops soon!! Here's a short and sweet sneak peek at 2 of the 6 new skincare products that I am obsessed with and using every day. All will become a part of our service protocols and available for clients to purchase at Falmouth Heights. We will also have them available to all in a Skincare value box launching this Autumn.
5. COOKIE CAPER COOKIES
Skincare and sugar.. that's me in a nutshell! One will save you and the other will age you. All this Crumbl Mumbl I have been listening to probably got me more in the mood for sweets so when I saw Cookie Caper was going to the Cranberry Festival at Brooks Park, I had to get a sampling to try. Recently I had her Chocolate Covered Cherry Cookie and OMG.. one of the best cookies I have ever had. If you love Cherry Garcia ice cream or chewy, more on the dough-y side cookies then you will lo0o0ve these cookies. The Cookie Caper is a small business on Cape Cod that specializes in custom decorated sugar cookies, cookie cakes, macarons and drop cookies for any occasion. All treats are made to order, fresh and delicious. Of the dozen cookies I tried (a mix of Fluffernutter, Chocolate Chip, Funfetti & more) my favorite was that Chocolate Covered Cherry and I am kicking myself for not grabbing the Cotton Candy. So my summer is busy but also sweet. Hope yours is too! Xx JD
